Innovation Built in Curriculum
Inspired by Finnish Curriculum, various educational theories and variety of learning practices acquired from all around the world, the curriculum provides a holistic approach towards overall development of students. The primary focus of this philosophy revolves around the 3Cs which stand for: Character, Competence and Content. Learning through the 3C curriculum is interactive and integrated as it creates a life like experience for the child.
3C MILESTONES
3C curriculum has adopted the international practice of ‘Milestone skills’ from Finland and Montessori to ensure that students acquire age specific Everyday Practical Life Skills (EPL).
By examining a central issue, this approach links one subject to the other in order to create relevance and foster a multidisciplinary under-standing from an early age.
Curriculum Design and Pedagogy
In order to implement transdisciplinary learning, the 3C curriculum adopts a thematic approach towards learning. The themes have a wide range of descriptors which are broad enough to accommodate various subject related concepts under a single main idea that is indicative of an action. This action has significant implication in a student’s day to day life and decision making. The modern curriculum design is most effective because of it’s unique teaching-learning processes and learner-centric approach
INQUIRY BASED APPROACH
THE KATH MURDOCH INQUIRY CYCLE
Curiosity is one of the most influential drivers of learning. This learning approach provided by Kath Murdoch emphasizes on the importance of inquiry among children. It intends to incorporate curiosity and conversation as part of learning. Instead of simply giving away information, the teachers are expected to intrigue the children by asking: why, what and how? The urge to discover, learn, explore and create an impact can only arise from the power of an inquiry
ENGAGING VARIED LEARNERS
HOWARD GARDNERS MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCE THEORY
There are at least seven different ways in which people perceive the world. Every individual’s level of understanding is different from the other. The verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences are the ones most frequently used in traditional school curricula. Howard Gardner proposes a more balanced curriculum that incorporates the arts, self-awareness, communication, and physical education may be useful in order to leverage the intelligences that some students may have.
NURTURING HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILLS
THE BLOOMS TAXONOMY
Bloom’s taxonomy is a hierarchical model that classifies educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity. Most learning processes end with gathering information and remembering it. This system presupposes the importance of Higher Order Thinking where children are encouraged to analyze and actualize ideas.
AGE APPROPRIATE LIFE SKILLS
3C MILESTONES
3C curriculum has adopted the international practice of ‘Milestone skills’ from Finland and Montessori to ensure that students acquire age specific Everyday Practical Life Skills (EPL). The three highlight skills are Self management, Interpersonal and Financial management milestones.
INNOVATIVE TEACHING LEARNING STRATEGIES
PEDAGOGY
Inquiry Based Learning: Inquiry-based learning is a research-based strategy that actively involves students in the exploration of the content, issues, and questions surrounding a curricular area or concept. A student-centric approach to teaching and learning that focuses on the students’ questions, ideas and observations at the heart of the learning experience. Inquiry is not so much seeking the right answer, because often there is none, but rather seeking appropriate resolutions to questions and issues.
TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEMES
TRANSDISCIPLINARY LEARNING
This is a holistic knowledge view that consciously applies methodology and language from more than one discipline to examine a central issue. It promotes the development and application of what has been taught and learned in new and different ways. It involves combining of two or more academic disciplines into one activity. This approach links one subject to the other in order to create relevance and understanding for the students.
